Job description

About Quidax

Quidax is where money meets limitless possibilities. We’re making it super easy for individuals, businesses, and fintechs in Africa to access crypto. Our goal? Providing real value for our customers today while shaping the future of money.

About the Role
We’re on the lookout for an Engineering Manager who’s hungry to lead the tech team behind our Fiat and Crypto products — the literal core of Quidax. This role is perfect for someone who knows how to ship great products fast, lead a team of brilliant engineers, and design systems that scale like magic. You’ll be owning a high-impact area that affects millions of dollars in value exchange and is key to our Q4 growth goals.

What You’ll Be Owning

Drive Team Performance & Delivery

  • In your first 90 days: assess the current team, structure, and delivery processes; align product and engineering to ship reliably and fast

  • By Q1 2026: Contribute to and take ownership of processes that drive engineering quality and meet our engineering SLAs.

Platform & Infrastructure Evolution

  • First 30 days: Work with technical leads to conduct a full-stack audit of our Fiat and Crypto platforms — think architecture, observability, and scalability

  • By month 6: Collaborate with technical leads to implement a 12-month roadmap for evolving our core systems, reducing tech debt, and supporting 10x growth

Build & Grow a Rockstar Team

  • Be a thoughtful technical voice and support your team in making diligent architectural decisions.

Own Quality, Reliability & Experimentation

  • By Q1 2026: ship 3+ experiments tied to improving exchange experience — track usage, improve UX, and iterate

Biggest Challenges You’ll Tackle

Here’s what will keep you up at night, it’s very exciting but you will want to get it solved like yesterday

  • Keeping up with the speed of product and market shifts while ensuring system stability

  • Building a truly multi-currency infrastructure that works across borders and bank partners

  • Juggling regulation, risk, and security while staying customer-first

  • Up-levelling an already smart team without micromanaging

Job requirements

What We’re Looking For

You’re a builder, a coach, and a systems thinker. You’ve seen scale and have battle scars to prove it. You know how to ship, lead, and grow.

  • You have at least 7 years of experience in software engineering.

  • You have at least 2 years of engineering management experience.

  • You possess a strong understanding of what constitutes high-quality code and effective software engineering processes, creating an environment that fosters these principles.

  • You have an execution-focused mindset, capable of navigating through ambiguity and delivering results.

  • You have an ability to balance long-term strategic thinking with short-term planning.

  • You can be hands-on when needed – whether that’s writing/reviewing code or technical documents, participating in on-call rotations and leading incidents, or triaging/troubleshooting bugs.

  • You know how to hire, coach, and level up engineers

Nice-to-haves:

  • You’ve led backend-heavy engineering teams in fintech or crypto

  • You’re fluent in Java or Kotlin (bonus if you’ve touched Go)

  • You’ve built payment/crypto systems and know what great infra looks like

  • Crypto or Web3 experience (custody, swaps, DeFi, etc.)

Reporting Line

You’ll report to the Director of Engineering and collaborate regularly with DevOps, Product, Fiat Ops, and Compliance. You’ll have decision-making power over your engineering pod’s roadmap, team structure, and system design choices.
